In 1996 CAMO developed the first audiometry department accessible to
the poor in Honduras. Eight years later this program serves approximately
4,800 patients a year including over 1,000 school children in rural Honduras.
Outreach programs teach community members about integration of hearing
impaired individuals into the workforce and educational system. Individuals
who have received hearing aids have experienced profound change in their
quality of life and how others receive them in the community.
CAMO’s headquarters in Honduras houses a complete audiometry department
where patients can have their hearing tested, molds taken and hearing aids
fitted and evaluated. CAMO employs one of the few fully trained audiometry
technicians in Honduras and continues to expand the services she can provide
by using US counterparts to increase her training. The Audiometry department
provides hearing aid repair services, another step in improving the care
available to the people of Honduras.
