| Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic |
 |
| Founded in November of 1999, the Multidisciplinary Breast
Clinic (MBC) fills a gap that previously existed in women’s health care
in Honduras. The clinic, established in San Felipe Hospital in the Honduran
capital, was formed in response to a growing need for breast health services.
Two additional clinics are now in operation in San Pedro Sula and Santa
Rosa due to an overwhelming demand for access to these services. For the
first time, public health patients receive all necessary diagnostic and
treatment services in one location. General physicians, oncologists, pathologists,
radiologists and surgeons work as a team to provide the most complete care
possible in a timely, efficient manner. |
 |
Services Offered through the MBC include:
• Mammography
• Pathology services
• Clinical breast exam |
• Surgical procedures
• Chemotherapy and
radiation therapy |
• Follow-up care with
oncology surgeons
• Patient education |
This program is a great advancement in the field of women’s health in
Honduras. Thanks to a successful cooperation between CAMO volunteers and
Honduran public health staff, this program is a step toward a solution
to one of the global health community’s greatest concerns: the early detection,
treatment and prevention of breast cancer.
Ways You Can Help:
• Arrange for donation of breast prosthesis, wigs and other
supplies and equipment related to the program
• Designate funds to purchase needed equipment, provide training for
Honduran health professionals, and supply educational materials for the
public
