Wheelchair Distribution and Repair Workshop Program

In partnership with Wheels for the World, CAMO facilitates the regular distribution of new and refurbished wheel-chairs to needy Hondurans. Teletón, a therapy and rehabilitation center for the poor, is the site of distribution and repair of the donated wheel-chairs. CAMO and Teletón saw that patients would return with chairs in need of repairs but that there was no one who could repair them. A wheel-chair repair shop was established in Teletón. Today, the wheel-chair clinic is run by a technician, who himself has a disability. This year alone he has repaired and refurbished over 175 chairs for the communities in Western Honduras. Because the repair shop is the only one of its kind in Honduras, demand is steadily increasing and will continue to do so as more and more wheel-chairs become available to the public. Replacement parts and additional assistance is needed and CAMO plans to hire and train a second technician to meet that demand if we are able to financially support this necessary development.

Ways You Can Help:
  • Designate funds for the wages of Honduran technicians who run the workshop in Santa Rosa de Copán.
  • Designate funds to cover shipping costs of the wheel-chairs.
  • Donate your used wheel-chair.
