Library (2001)

With the support from Rotary, CAMO built a medical library for students, hospital staff and international aid organizations.

With the destruction caused by Hurricane Mitch in 1998, equipment and supplies were sent to Honduras to help aid reconstruction. After this equipment was no longer needed, it was sold and the proceeds helped towards the construction of the new library.

Through CAMO’s relationship with Rotary International, a grant was written and presented to the Rotary Club in Santa Rosa. At the time, the Rotary Club lacked necessary funds, therefore CAMO provided the matching requirements and $20,000 was obtained for the furnishings and teaching equipment of the library.

Before CAMO improved facilities, the teaching hospital lacked proper teaching and research space for the staff. With the $50,000 addition, the classrooms, library, computer networking, and associated medical facilities provide medical students the resources to complete their training and provide better care for the patients. This addition has also resulted in the hospital being used by major international health organizations such as WHO, the CDC, and USAID to further assist in meeting the needs in Central America.
