Excerpt from Faith in Action:
"The biggest challenge for the volunteers is not the long hours nor the hard work, but the frustration ... despair ... and the urge to cry over the unfairness of it all.

But this is not a tragedy, this is a story of hope.  Although at times it appears that what CAMO volunteers do is merely a drop in the proverbial bucket of world poverty, it is important to remember that each "drop" is a life, a real live person, a Carmencita, a Manuel, a Lydia, a Jose.   A child, a mother, a father, a grandparent.  A person whose life will now be better because if another person's kindness, another person's gift, another person's capacity to love.

CAMO was founded when the urge to cry was channeled into action."

Book Reviews
Garry Mullinax, The News Journal, April 19, 1998 "Faith in Action is a moving and informative look at the important work being done by members of the Central American Medical Outreach program in Honduras."

Darla Landers, The Daily Record. Dec. 10. 1997 "If you don't have to blink away a tear after reading even the forward to Faith in Action: Medical Missionaries in Central America, check your pulse... It's not a tough read; the pages turn quickly. But it carries a lot of emotional weight."

Book Description
Faith in Action is a handsome, 104 page, coffee-table-sized book with more than 40 black and white photographs by Cari DeSantis and commentary by award-winning reporter Mike Billington. Missionaries, former missionaries, Peace Corps volunteers and others will find it a remarkable testament to the work they do. It is also an ideal book for Sunday school teachers, ministers, and non-secular school libraries.

From the Author
"I have been a reporter for more than 30 years and throughout that time I have often encountered people of faith quietly going about their work in small villages and towns in Central and South America, Africa, and throughout the United States. A few years ago, I went to Honduras as part of a CAMO volunteer team and upon my return Cari and I decided we would put this book together as a way of raising money for this very small organization that has made such a very large impact on the people it serves. We didn't want to just write a history of CAMO, however, for missionary work is an emotional experience for the men and women who do it. Instead, we chose dozens of her photographs to illustrate the work that CAMO does and I set about writing some commentary to go with them. The result is, I think, a very real testament to not only the work these dedicated volunteers do but also to the spirit they carry with them."

Faith in Action portrays the work of everyday Americans who face untold hardships to bring medicine -- and miracles -- to the outer reaches of the Honduran highlands. An inspirational documentary in photographs and prose, Faith in Action is a tribute to these medical missionaries who choose personal action to live out their faith, their hope, and their love.
