Ideas on how YOU can make a difference
Just added: Here is a summary of needed items on our donation list.
CAMO needs your help. Following are some suggestions
how you might become involved.
GROUP PROJECTS: Can you or your group pledge to make or collect
the following?
-
Making Baby bundles which includes:
-
2 diapers
-
1 Receiving blanket
-
2 Infant T-shirt (no one piece that button under the crotch)
-
2 diaper pins
-
2 item such as baby powder comb lotion etc.
-
Collect used hearing aids
-
Collect used eye glasses
-

SPONSORS: Challenge your family or organization to sponsor a CAMO
project! We have programs that need sponsorships ranging from small to
large:
-
Sponsor a Honduran medical professional to come to the USA or other training
institutions ($1,000.000)
-
Sponsor children's dental care. The Dental Program treats over 600
children per month (Cost $2.00 per child)
-
Sponsor books for the bilingual school ( We can buy used text books in
good condition for $2.00 per book)
-
Sponsor a medical volunteer. Medical Volunteers are Honduran doctors who
travel to villages with no doctors in them. These Honduran doctors see
90 people each visit. Materials /fuel cost is approx. $5.00 per patient
(Sponsor a day $450.00)
-
Sponsor a day screening school children for hearing problems. We
can screen 30 children per day cost of program ($1.00 per Child or $30.00
per day)
-
Sponsor the purchase of nebulizers (wholesale $48 per unit). Children will
die daily because they lack necessary nebulizers for treatments.
These little machines save lives everyday.
LARGE SCALE PROJECTS: The larger projects are the building projects.
These are the most difficult to raise money - but the utilization of the
buildings serve the most people:
-
COMMUNITY CENTER/GYM - The City of Santa Rosa de Copan has a population
including suburbs of 43,000. Of this population over forty percent are
under age of +twenty-one. They do not have a single enclosed
gym with a rainy season that last up to six months (not even the schools
have a gym). The community has been working for 10 years to
build a public gym and was able to put a roof over this facility two years
ago. The building has the center floor to play basketball but the
rest of the facility is incomplete and with mud floors. The estimated
cost is $30,000 to finish the electrical wiring, plumbing installation,
floors and the walls. Children in Honduras need a safe place to play.
In Santa Rosa we have approximately 17,000 young people who need this facility.
All the schools would use this facility.
-
Public Clinics are in disrepair. We have evaluated seven clinics
and each one ranges from $10,000 to 45,000 of repairs needed.
Many safety issues present themselves, such as unsafe electrical wiring,
ceilings that have collapsed on patients, roofs that leak, no screen on
window in a high malaria area, no plumbing so staff cannot clean wounds
or wash their own hands.
-
Day Care Center. Day care is needed for single working mothers.
Every day this center takes care of about 60 children. The food needs
and the early stimulation needs are great. This facility is in need
of mattresses for sleep time, play items, funds for food. Children
Spanish literature and other educational supplies are also needed.
The day center structure has a leaky roof, plumbing, and electrical issues.
One day of food cost is one dollar per child. Structural repairs
would cost $20,000.
Volunteer opportunities:
-
Coordinate a small collection project
-

with other specialist)
-

-
Operating Room Nurse
-
Spanish/English Speakers (Fluent translators)
At CAMO we do all our own projects. CAMO does not contract projects
out to other organizations. We monitor project development and the
outcome. This has proven to prevent cost inflation and allows us
a higher level of control. This translates into fiscally responsible
projects and programs that are completed.
